Nagisa YAGI
-Biography-
Nagisa Yagi is an artist working mainly as a printmaker. Recent major exhibitions include “Animal Trail” at Niigata Eya (Niigata); “Adventures in Representation: Iconoclastic Abstraction” [Atsushi Tanikawa Project] at Gallery Ko (Tokyo) in 2024; Collection Exhibition “Dream Continuation, Story Beginning: The Beginning of the Story” at Kurobe City Museum of Art (Toyama); “Exhibition of Japanese Contemporary Prints” at Kersevan Gallery (Croatia) in 2022; and “Mirror Image of the Matters” at Niche Gallery (Tokyo, Japan) in 2019, etc.
In the “Mirror Image of the Matters” series, the artist focuses on the open space and the closure that occurs by juxtaposing and binding the “front side (plate)” and the “back side (printed image),” which is the structural providence of print expression. In her new “Fragment” series, she attempts to approach the essence of “being” by using only a simple accumulation of lines and eliminating the need to “copy.”
She graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design, received her MFA from Tama Art University, and was selected as a domestic researcher by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Currently based in Japan, she teaches at the Joshibi Junior College of Art and Design.
